One cannot ignore the fact that electrical safety is imperative, no matter what the situation is. From injuries to property damage and even fatalities, turning a blind eye on electrical safety can have serious consequences. However, there are several electrical myths that have circulated over time. All it takes is an amateur to provide this false information that is then passed along.

Fortunately, the expert at Tuscany Electric Inc will help dispel these misconceptions so that you can better understand how to handle electrical problems and prevent potential accidents in the future. He has debunked three of the most widely believed electrical myths. Keep reading to know more. Keep reading to know more.

Myth 1: It’s only one hundred and twenty volts, it won’t kill you
This is absolutely false! It is important to note that 1/10 of an ampere (amp) going through the body for two seconds is enough to cause death. That is why in areas where electrical shock can arise more easily, like bathrooms, for example, GFCI receptacles are used. The standard GFCI breaker or receptacle will trip when it senses six milliamps of stray current. Do not attempt to work on electrical projects if you are not qualified. Hire a reputable and qualified electrician.

Myth 2: Only old wiring that goes bad
This is false. If electrical equipment has not been installed properly, it can degrade quickly. Loose termination points will cause excess heat, burning the wire’s insulation regardless of its age. Using the proper wire and circuit breaker, and electrical equipment is crucial. Installing it properly is just as essential to your safety.

Myth 3: Overhead power lines are insulated
That is false! Most overhead power lines are not insulated. The fact that they are uninsulated makes life easier for power lineman to perform maintenance on the lines. Stay away from power lines at all times. Keep a safe distance. In Alberta, people will want to stay at least seven meters away from power lines.
